Number Mysticism vs. Numerology – What is the real difference?

Many people treat number mysticism and numerology as the exact same concept. To some extent, they are right, but if we look closer, we can discover important differences.

The question of terminology

Ordinary Numerology (“Spiritual Numerology”): Numerology is a widespread term, just as Astrology, which in many people’s minds is associated with magical, mystical connotations.
Practical Numerology: The practical use of the numbers in our birth date and name, to see the repeating mathematical patterns in individuals or life periods.

I completely understand people who find their inner peace and higher calling through the general, spiritual approach to numerology. Most people just need to hear uplifting things that make them feel like they are ‘all set from now on’. Personally, I found this a bit lacking. That’s why I started looking for everyday patterns in my own life and in the lives of others.

The practical difference

In the interpretation of number mysticism: Concepts such as “destiny,” “karmic tasks,” “past lives,” and “mystical energies” frequently come up.
In the practical approach of numerology: It is based more on the exact meaning of numbers, the repetition of cycles and patterns, and drawing practical conclusions.

When used in a traditional, spiritual sense, numerology is a perfect tool for discovering our natural skills and achieving greater harmony with ourselves and others. However, the practical application of numerology is completely neutral when it comes to morality. Numbers themselves don’t have morals or ethics. They exist regardless of whether a person is morally good or bad. Anyone can use the knowledge of numbers for their own purposes, without exception

Personally, I don’t call what I do Number Mysticism or Numerology in a spiritual sense, because there is nothing mystical about it. Numerology is based on numbers and observations — and numbers are exact units, not guesswork or feelings.
